
The Department of Computer Applications at Nirmala College of Arts and Science, in collaboration with the college’s Cyber Club, organized an insightful seminar titled “Ethical Hacking: Insights for Aspiring Defenders” on July 15, 2025, at the college seminar hall. Aimed at second-year BCA students, the session focused on introducing the fundamentals of ethical hacking, its critical role in cybersecurity, and the career opportunities in this dynamic field. The event commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Amrutha S, Assistant Professor, who introduced the resource person, Mr. Leo Joy, Senior Consultant at GP3 Cloud Innovations (OPC) Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Joy delivered an engaging session, highlighting the increasing demand for cybersecurity professionals in the digital age. He covered essential topics such as the definition and types of hackers, the significance of cybersecurity in today’s world, and the phases of ethical hacking—from reconnaissance to clearing tracks. He also demonstrated key tools like Nmap, Wireshark, Metasploit, and Burp Suite, and discussed open-source platforms for hands-on learning. The session further explored career pathways, certifications like CEH, CompTIA Security+, and OSCP, and emphasized the importance of cyber ethics and legal compliance. Students actively participated in the seminar, engaging in discussions and problem-solving activities. The event successfully provided students with a strong foundational understanding of cybersecurity, encouraged interest in further learning, and underscored the importance of ethical practices in the digital space.
