Environment Conservation Cell

The Environment Conservation Cell started functioning in our college on June 5th 2018 – World Environment day with 50 members. The environment conservation cell is an association of nature lovers from various departments of our college. The cell aims that a practice of protecting the nature. This cell comprises of Nature club, Power club, Water conservation cell and Waste Management Cell in our college.

Objectives

  • To providing opportunities to acquire knowledge, skills, commitment to preserve the nature, Power and Water.
  • To spread awareness among students about proper waste segregation, collection and disposal.
  • To create understanding of consequences of ignoring water savings and good practices on power management.

Activities Report

Report 2020-2021

The Environment Conservation Cell of Nirmala Arts and Science College was inaugrated by Mr Mathewkutty Tom, managing director of TJT Farms and plantation, Kottayam and followed by a talk on organic farming on 11th December, 2020 through google meet. Since its inception the Environment Conservation Cell of our college have been active in spreading awareness about the hazards of ignoring and destroying our nature and have attempted to show the community by example, ways to return to the roots.

On January 15th, 2021 the Environment Conservation Cell conducted a talk on the “ Latest trends in Farming and Waste Management “ by Mr. P.A Thankachan, Executive Director of Rural Science and Technology Centre, Thuruthikkara. Later we successfully implemented a new concept “ Muttatthoru  Meenthottam “ project by Research Centre Thuruthikkara.

We are proud to inform that we successfully maintain a “ Vegetable Garden “ in our college . We do regular harvest from our garden and the produce is distributed among college members and community.

The Environment Conservation Cell in association with NSS, conducted a campaign to clean our campus and surrounding area on 26th March, 2021.

The Environment Conservation Cell in association with ED club in Nirmala Arts and Science college conducted a Exhibition-Cum- Sale on 29th March, 2021.

We, The Environment Conservation Cell of Nirmala Arts and Science College are proud of our activities in this academic year and firmly believe that we have been an inspiration to the entire college and the community in spreading our message of respecting and nurturing our beloved nature.

Report 2019-2020

Also ecofriendly posters and hand drawn cloth flexboards aimed at spreading awareness regarding waste, power and water management are placed inside and outside college by the members of the cell. Every year members of the cell plants new trees and plants in the campus and watering and caring for the plants is done on regular basis.

Harvesting of produce from the Vegetable Garden is a popular activity of the cell. The produce is distributed among college staff and students.

Report 2018-2019

The cell had been conducted on behalf of the world environment day celebration in association with the charitable society – “Space”. The ceremony was inaugurated by the former principal, Prof. Daisy N.O. The event was flagged of by the Asst. Director, Department of Agriculture, Smt. Biji Thomas. The agricultural officers Smt. Biji and Miss. Jyotsana gave insights into modern farming practices and how to various crops rights at one’s home. It was decided to  implement schemes like “butterfly garden”, “vegetable garden” and “plastic free zone” in the college campus
