Prof. (Dr.) Mini K D – Ph.D in Microbiology, M.Phil, M.Sc,B.Ed
Prof. (Dr.) Mini K.D. is a distinguished academician and researcher with an exceptional career spanning over 27 years in higher education. She retired as Professor of Zoology from Sree Sankara College, Kalady on 31st May 2025, and continues to be a guiding force in academic, research, and student-centered initiatives. Throughout her career, she has adorned numerous prestigious roles. Dr. Mini has served as a Board of Studies member in Zoology at both Kerala University and Mahatma Gandhi University and currently serves as the Convenor of the UG Board of Studies in Zoology at Mahatma Gandhi University. She is also the Academic Counsellor for IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) and a Question Paper Setter for Kerala, Kannur, and Mahatma Gandhi Universities.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Mini has held several key academic and administrative positions. She has been a Board of Studies Member in Zoology at Kerala University and Mahatma Gandhi University and is presently the Convenor of the UG Board of Studies in Zoology at MG University. She is an Expert committee member in the interview board of MG University for the Staff selection as well as Staff promotion. Notably, she also serves as a Master Trainer for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) at Mahatma Gandhi University, contributing to the effective implementation of the new curriculum structure. A prolific scholar, she has authored 15 books and edited 7 academic volumes, all published by the Zoological Society of Kerala (ZSK). She has also contributed a book chapter to an international publication, reflecting her scholarly engagement at the global level. Her academic repertoire includes over 30 research articles in reputed national and international journals. Her work has been presented at various national and international conferences, where she has earned multiple Best Paper and Poster Presentation Awards.
Beyond her academic contributions, Dr. Mini is passionately involved in student development and environmental initiatives. She has served as Convenor of clubs such as Bhoomitrasena, Forestry Club, and Birds Club International, and is currently the Ernakulam District Convenor of Birds Club International. Her leadership and mentorship have been instrumental in student achievements, including winning the Best Project Award in Kerala for the WWF- supported ECHO Project, and in the production of student documentaries showcased at the Rain International Film Festival thrice.

She has also served as the Secretary of the Zoological Society of Kerala and currently the General Coordinator for the society’s Study Material Series, demonstrating her commitment to enriching academic content and accessibility. Prof. (Dr.) Mini KD exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and service. Her multifaceted contributions continue to inspire generations of students, educators, and researchers, making her a pillar of the academic community.
After a fulfilling 27-year career in academia, She embraced the role of Principal at Nirmala College with a deep sense of purpose and unwavering passion for continuing her service to the academic community. Nirmala College, with its rich legacy, disciplined atmosphere, and dedicated faculty, stands out as an institution where values and vision go hand in hand. What makes it truly special is the commendable support extended by the management—not only towards the staff but also in their steadfast commitment to the overall upliftment of the institution.
